To reach the starting point of the trail in Calpe, we take the shuttle bus from Javea. After unloading the mountain bikes and checking our equipment we are off to the Olta trails.
The first ascent on the mountain is a tough one. Now it’s time to suck it up and ride up the serpentines one by one. On the way we are accompanied by panoramic views over Calpe, the Ifach and the sea. We follow the forest and gravel paths for a while until we reach the side of the Sierra Olta facing the sea. Now we have to climb another 100 meters of altitude until we get to the first single track. A short trail leads steeply down between the pine trees, always keeping an eye on the trees, as not to bump into one. After only a short stretch of asphalt the next trail follows. Once arrived down, we have descended significantly within a very short time.
More single tracks are now on higher grounds – so it’s back up with the bikes. After a while we reach a curve in the track from which a gap can be seen between the bushes – surprisingly this is the entry to our next downhill pleasure. Rough, gravel, stone and limestone outcrop are the first terms that come to mind for this single track, although that should not reduce the riding pleasure. Once you get going, the bike runs well over the trail. At the end of the trail we leave the pine forest behind and on the following 4 km we have to cope with another 150 meters of elevation gain. As a reward, we will now follow a sloping single track all the way towards Calpe. No major inclines are expected from here and we reach the starting point over gravel and asphalt roads.
